The U.S. military uses parts of Hawaiʻi, like Pōhakuloa on the Big Island and PMRF on Kauaʻi, as training grounds. That means they drop bombs, fire missiles, and run war games to get “ready” for future wars. It started during World War II and never stopped.
They say it’s about national defense — that Hawaiʻi is “strategic” because it’s in the middle of the Pacific. But really, it’s about controlling the Pacific, projecting U.S. power, and keeping military contractors rich.
One island, Kahoʻolawe, was bombed for 50 years — so much that it became uninhabitable and spiritually desecrated. Hawaiians protested, occupied it, got arrested, and finally got bombing stopped in the 1990s. But the land is still contaminated.
And they never stopped elsewhere.
Should You Care?
This is your land, your future, and your home. You should care because this isn’t just “practice” — it’s real damage. Real harm to people, culture, environment, and future generations. And the only way it changes is if your generation says no more.
- ʻĀina (land) is sacred in Hawaiian culture — it feeds you, holds your ancestors, and connects you to everything.
- Bombing poisons that land with toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and unexploded bombs that can never fully be cleaned.
- The military controls 25% of all land in Hawaiʻi. That’s land that could be used for housing, farming, schools, healing — but instead it’s being blown up.
- Native Hawaiians, local families, and ecosystems are paying the price, while the military gets billions in funding and politicians look the other way.
If they can bomb paradise, they can bomb anywhere.
So — stand up, ask questions, and make noise.
Silence is permission.
